When the Great Plague was brought to Eyam in a parcel of cloth from London in 1665, three quarters of the villagers died. A Plague Commermoration Service is still held annually in the village but, despite itstragic past, Eyam is a pretty village with a number of picturesque cottages, a fine old Hall dating from 1676 and stocks on the village green
